THE most horrible flooding in southern France has claimed five lives
and enforced almost 3000 people to empty their homes.
The most recent target was a 73-year-old man who deceased of heart failure
in Rivesaltes, in the Pyrenees-Orientales region, when trying to strength his
car through a big depression in the road that was flooded.
Along the banks of the Agly river in the same area, some 2000 people had
been emptied by mid-Sunday,said by the government office in that area..
The flooding was measured already more serious than fatal excesses in 1999 and “we are evacuating residents within 200 metres of any side of the river,” said the government.
Additional 560 people had at this time left their homes in Canet, Argeles-sur-Mer and Barcares, on the Mediterranean coast.
